One year of Russia’s all-out war
It’s 5:07 a.m. in Kyiv.
The time when, exactly one year ago, Ukrainians all over the country woke up to the sounds of Russian missiles, artillery, and aircraft above what should have been their sleeping cities.
Wherever you are, in all likelihood, five o’clock in the morning is associated with the early morning quiet. For Ukrainians, this time of day will forever be reminiscent of a night sky lit up by explosions and the end of life as they had known it.

This year has been one of tremendous loss for Ukraine. But it has also been a year of a new Ukraine. A Ukraine that has never been more certain of who it is and where it’s going.
