Credited as the designer of UDP and a foundational pioneer of the Internet, David P Reed was a pleasure to talk to on FLOSS Weekly 701 with his thoughtful and sometimes provocative answers (he says Linux is coming to end-of-life because it has too much “stuff” in it for example). Notably he wrote the seminal paper on the end-to-end principle (put the functionality at the ends of the wire and not in the middle and the less familiar but to me more important overlay principle.
